Designers + Projects We Love

We’ve rounded up some of our favorite designers and architects along with projects we can’t stop thinking about. For a little more inspiration, check out this article from Architect News.

Phineas Harper, Open City

Whether through walking tours, its renowned "Open House Festival" (coming up in September), or countless other programs, Open City aims to make architecture and city-planning accessible and equitable.

Sir David Adjaye OBE, Adjaye Associates

Sir David Adjaye’s belief about the role of architecture was borne out of a childhood experience - an acknowledgement that architecture could make a difference, and desire and ability to make that change. According to the architect: “architecture is ‘a social act’ — it’s about constructing buildings that acknowledge and understand their histories, whilst creating something entirely new, in order to serve communities into their futures.”

Farshid Moussavi, Farshid Moussavi Architecture

Accolades and awards abound for Farshid Moussavi’s eponymous firm, but one favorite has to be the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland for its stark elegance.

Nune

We came across this London Residence in Vogue last year, and loved how complex and layered the spaces were, while staying true to their neutral tones. Of course, we had to go look up the designer behind the space, Nune, a London- and New York based firm founded by Sheena Murphy.

Ilse Crawford

Designer Ilse Crawford is on a “radical mission… to make people feel at home. This requires not just a comfortable sofa… but empathy, interrogation, and an uncommon warmth and tactility.”

Studio Iro

At Studio Iro, founded by Lucy Currell, we’ve come across many projects that achieve a delicate balance among eclectic, cross-disciplinary styles.

Elicyon

Charu Gandhi, founder of Elicyon, “ “We don’t have a ‘look’ as a studio, which is actually one of our strengths, and personally something I’m proud of, because it means we’re very much led by the client’s brief” – by the concentrated, intentional effort her firm puts into learning and knowing each client.

Albion Nord

Every design we’ve seen from Albion Nord echoes the words that welcome you to their website: “There are many things that make a space beautiful. Balance and proportion. A sense of sympathy with local history and architecture. But we believe the most beautiful spaces are those with soul.”

Alexandria Dauley

Clean lines, natural light, an occasional pop of color, thus one is one of our favorites from Dauley Designs.

Barlow & Barlow

Classic spaces that are “youthful and exuberant”... and landscape design on the horizon, this is one of our favorites from Barlow & Barlow.

Stephanie Barba Mendoza

We came across this article in ArchDigest and fell in love with so many of the spaces - the showcase is called “Wow!house” for a reason - especially the rich color and textures in the study (@StephanieBarbaMendoza) and possibly the chicest bathroom we’ve ever seen (@2lgstudio/@houseofrohl)

Veere Grenney

For some of the most beautiful (and sometimes unexpected) color combinations, we find inspiration in projects from UK-based Veere Grenney (like this one in @AD).

Rose Uniacke

As we return to London, we can’t help but recall the fantastic female art dealers we exhibit alongside. Harper’s Bazaar curated this exceptional list of who you could find at Masterpiece a few years ago.
