The Fall
“Wings are my own aspiration and represent our ambitions. We all want to succeed in some measure – to fly, to raise ourselves above the masses! Wouldn’t it be nice to buy a pair of wings from a shop rail, fit them on and lift off.
In the Garden of Eden, Adam was tempted by Eve. By hanging a wing off an apple tree, I wanted to show the moment he was tempted in his head - not by the forbidden fruit but by the idea of getting something ‘more’.
With this piece I wanted (unlike previous screenprints) to show the subtle movement of an idea. Lenticular printing – which was actually developed by my dear friend Professor Martin Richardson at the de Montford University – seemed an appropriate technique to convey this subtle transition. Professor Richardson is quite respected in his field, printing for Peter Blake and Damien Hirst, among others.”
