Joseph Beuys

A unique screenprint by Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol met German-born artist Joseph Beuys in Dusseldorf in 1979. Immediately upon their meeting, true to character, Warhol asked to take a picture of Beuys. Though the two contemporaries are never referred to as friends, they are said to have shared a mutual admiration for each other’s work.

It was not uncommon for Warhol to depict his fellow artists. Of visual artists alone, Warhol’s photos, screenprints, and paintings capture the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella and, of course, Joseph Beuys, among others.
