Female Figure

A unique drawing by Andy Warhol

Owing to his religious upbringing and the influence of his mother’s whimsical drawings, many of Warhol’s early works on paper depict cherubs, angels, and fairies. The drawings are whimsical and lively, created with simple lines and often accompanied by the elegant script of his mother, Julia Warhola. Many of the drawings of winged cherubs and fairies would appear in In the Bottom of My Garden and Love is a Pink Cake, books published by Warhol in the 1950s.
