Spiller + Cameron
Spiller + Cameron (British, b. 1991 and 1962, respectively) is the compilation of mastermind mother-and-son Moira Cameron and Xavier Spiller-Cameron. Between the two, ideas are born, plans are developed, and aims are approached, combining an understanding they share for aesthetic qualities and a joint passion for creativity. The works are assembled in union, with each collaborator bringing his and her strengths and weaknesses to the union -- Xavier introducing his youthful, contemporary energy and vitality to Moira’s maturity and experience. It is from this unique perspective that their partnership was born.
Spiller + Cameron describe their artistic process by virtue of “alchemy” – something which transmutes a base product into something beautiful, something worthy of contemplation. The artists create using discarded paint rags, and other materials, “upcycling” them; they are primed, ironed, and meticulously stitched together, the resulting “collages” so precise that the stitches almost disappear. At first glance the pieces look like one abstract work; details become more evident upon close inspection.
