This painting was started with layers of fabric and paper collaged onto an underpainting of pinks and reds, creating a ground over which I wanted to layer. I was interested in working over the red with complementary colors as well as neutrals and letting the underpainting show through in various areas.

The neutral tones – whites and creams – and the horizontality of the composition suggested to me sand and shoreline; the blues and greens, reflective water. Much of my work is about water and the feeling it evokes. This is not a conscious attempt. It comes from the “inner storehouse” that contains my experiences, associations, and emotions.
